The Business Process Technology (BPT) group at Hasso Plattner Institute (University of Potsdam) is one of the leading research groups in business process management. Since 2001, the group has developed significant research contributions in various areas of business process management, including process choreographies, process compliance, behavioral analysis of business processes, process abstraction, process monitoring, and event processing. The results have been published in top conferences in the field as well as in highly ranked journals. Together with colleagues from the international BPM community, we started the BPM Academic Initiative in 2009. The goal of this endeavor has been twofold. First, to support education in business process modeling and analysis by providing a professional software tool free of charge together with assignments to be used by lecturers. Second, to strengthen research in our area by showcasing recent research results and offering a large set of process models that emerged educational efforts for empirical research.
Currently, BPT is involved in national and international funded projects that have process monitoring, performance measurement and process intelligence of operational processes at their focus, especially in the field of healthcare and logistics.
Prof. Dr. Mathias Weske is a professor at the Hasso Plattner Institute and chair of the Business Process Technology research group since 2001. Dr. Weske has published a textbook on business process management; he is also Area Editor of Elsevier's Information Systems journal.
