The Faculty of Informatics at the University of Lugano is well known for its research in Software, Systems and Service Engineering. The Lugano BPM roundtable is chaired by the group of Prof. Pautasso, which focuses on building experimental systems to explore the intersection of model-driven software composition techniques, business process modeling languages, and autonomic/Cloud computing.
The group is actively developing JOpera: Process Support for more than Web Services, a very powerful rapid service composition tool for Eclipse with a growing user community. The group has also proposed the BPEL for REST and BPMN for REST standard extensions.
Prof. Dr. Cesare Pautasso is assistant professor at the Faculty of Informatics at the University of Lugano, Switzerland. Previously he was a researcher at the IBM Zurich Research Lab (2007) and a senior researcher at ETH Zurich (2004-2007). He completed his graduate studies with a Ph.D. from ETH Zurich in 2004 and his undergraduate studies at Politecnico di Milano, Italy with a Computer Science Engineering Degree (cum laude) in 2000.
His teaching, training, and consulting activities both in academia and in industry cover advanced topics related to Business Process Management, Enterprise Software Architecture, Service Oriented Architectures and emerging Web services and Middleware technologies. He is an active member of IEEE and ACM, where he has participated in more than 100 international conference/workshop program committees. He has served as program chair of the 8th European Conference on Web Services (ECOWS 2010) and the 7th International Symposium on Software Composition (SC 2008). He has also started the series of International Workshops on RESTful Design (WS-REST) at the WWW conference. He was the general chair of the 9th European Conference on Web Services (ECOWS 2011). He regularly referees for Swiss, EU and US funding agencies. Since 2010 he is an advisory board member of Consilience International LLC, a New York based company putting work in context.
